Colour blocking has been around since ages and started to hit the runways last year but, it completely blew up this spring 2012! Colour blocking is the mixing of two colours together you wouldn't traditionally pair together like purple and red or green and yellow. I've never been experimental with colour in my every day fashion. Sticking mainly to nudes and muted colours but, after awhile it dawned on me. When I saw this trend hit the runway I was like, "No way! I'm not wearing green pants with a yellow shirt!" But wait a second. I have worn green pants with a yellow shirt before; my desi suits! A green salwar with a yellow kameez! LOL! And what other combinations like pink and blue, red and purple, magenta and orange, the list is endless! We Desis are the queens/kings of colour blocking! We have been colour blocking for centuries!Satya Paul is a perfect example of throwing together bright colours that look so perfect together!

So how can you get started? The best way to is look at a colour wheel. (See below) Choose a colour and then look at the one directly opposite to it. That would be your best match! If you're not ready to wear to bold colour together, throw a white in the mix to tone down your look. There is absolutely no rules! The brighter, the better! Don't shy away from colour this spring. Embrace it!
This works with pastels colours as well. Baby pinks with baby blues, violets and mint green or lemon yellow and a peach would be very pretty together too. I love these colours in Desi fashion but even more in my everyday outfits. Ultra pretty!
So the next time you're thinking to yourself, can I really wear cobalt blue jeans with sunny yellow tank? Yes you can! Wear it with confidence and you will look amazing!
